Recovering old chair
Kenzie, my granddaughter asked for a reading Chair for Christmas. She wants a place in a corner with a sheer curtain around to give her a cozy little spot to read. I found this chair at a thrift store and bought some magenta pink upholstery fabric to recover the chair.

To begin the recovering process I first labeled all the sections of the chair.

The next step was to remove the staples in each section of the chair. (My husband helped me!) I always check to see what section of the chair is the top layer. It is usually the back of the piece.

This small chair had a million and one staples. It is a good idea to not only label the sections on the old fabric but also write down the sequence in which you remove the sections. That helps when you start placing the new fabric on the piece.

Save the original sections for a pattern. Then cut the new fabric sections.

The next step is to start with the last piece you removed and staple the new fabric onto the frame. It is good to have a helper. One person can staple while the other person holds the fabric taut.

In this step we have stapled all the way around the front of the chair.
Next step is stapling the sides of the chair. Place the fabric right side down and staple along following the edge of the chair.

Next, fold the fabric over to right side up. Pull the fabric tight and staple along the back of the chair.

Staple the other side the same as before.
Lastly, fold the edges of the fabric under and staple along the edges of all sides of the back of the chair. I also use hot glue to help some areas lay nicely.

Here's Kenzie in her new reading chair.
